Harry Merriman is an emerging artist living and working between Gadigal and Wiradjuri land in Sydney and Boorowa, NSW. Australia.
Through photography, video, painting, digital media, and collage, Merriman deconstructs Western visual tropes—especially those found within film and advertising—to examine how history, identity, and self-perception have been constructed. By challenging familiar narratives, Merriman encourages viewers to consider their own experiences of belonging and nationhood.
Merriman received his MFA from The National Art School in Sydney in 2024, his BFA (Honours) from UNSW in 2020, and his BFA from UTS in 2019.
His work has received several notable awards, including the ‘Harvey Galleries National Art School Graduate Award Exhibition’ and a highly commended in The Ballarat Foto Biennale’s ‘Grad Foto’. Merriman has also exhibited in several group shows, including the Ballarat Foto Biennale (Ballarat), Photo Access (Canberra), Harvey Galleries (Sydney), and Stills Gallery (Edinburgh), as well as being a finalist in several art prizes. Merriman's work is held in public and private collections, including the Macquarie Bank Collection.
