Artist Statement:
Facades reflects on the curated realities of suburban life and the subtle negotiations between nature and human intention. Set within familiar Australian neighbourhoods, the series captures how individuals shape their environment, claiming small parcels of land and modifying them to reflect personal ideals. Each image highlights the interplay between constructed dwellings and the manipulated natural world, where lawns are trimmed and trees pruned to align with aesthetic sensibilities. This act of shaping reveals both a desire for control and a quiet reverence for order, exposing the layered relationships between identity, space, and ecology. By framing these domestic landscapes as compositions of intervention, Facades invites viewers to question what it means to inhabit, modify, and belong within contemporary suburbia.
